If you are visiting in the area there are a number of different lodging options for you to choose from. If you enjoy staying in hotels then you will have multiple hotels to choose from. Each hotel has different amenities for you to enjoy and different types of rooms. The prices of each hotel will vary so make sure that you do your homework and research each hotel before choosing one that you want to spend your vacation at. Another option while visiting in the area is a bed and breakfast. If you enjoy a little more seclusion place and a place that feels like a home away from home then a bed and breakfast is for you. The bed and breakfast will make you a homemade breakfast each day that you are there. The rooms are just like your room at home and there will only be a few guest there at a time instead of many guest like there will be at a hotel. The last option for you to stay at is at a campsite. If you enjoy the outdoors and like camping out this is the best place for you to stay while you are in the area.

Istanbul, formerly known as Constantinople, is the largest city in the nation of Turkey. It was the capital of both the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. As a result, there are many wonderful historic sites and museums for the tourist to visit in this magnificent city.
One of the most popular destinations in Istanbul is the Hagia Sophia. This building with the immense dome was the center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity until the fall of the Byzantine Empire. At that time, the church was converted into a mosque. Today, the Hagia Sophia is a museum filled with beautiful mosaics and fantastic architecture.
The Topkapi Palace was built by Sultan Mehmed II when he conquered Constantinople for the Ottoman Empire. This magnificently adorned palace is now a museum and one of the most frequently visited sites in Istanbul.
Another great museum for the tourist to visit is the Istanbul Archaeology Museum. This museum contains relics from the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods. It is one of the largest museums in the world, so the tourist should plan on reserving enough time in his schedule to see all the wonders this museum holds.
These are just a few of the many historic sites in Istanbul. The traveler could spend days thoroughly exploring all that this city has to offer.

Istanbul holds the distinction of being the only city in the world occuping both the continents of Asia and Europe. Dating back to 667BC the city was originally part of the Byzantium Empire later becoming known as Nova Roma under the reign of Constantine. The name Istanbul was formally adopted in 1923.

One of the most popular sights to visit is the Grand Bazaar dating back to 1464. This shopping mecca encompasses 64 streets, 12 entrances and over 3000 shops all under one roof. A mecca for shoppers of jewelry, pottery and carpets, gold jewelry and gems such as sapphires, emeralds and rubies are a popular purchase. When contemplating a purchase, especially carpets, visitors are strongly advised to visit three shops for price comparison maintaining a positive attitude and demeanor at all times to avoid becoming the victim of an eager vendor. Extreme caution is advised regarding purchasing antiques or old items since Turkish law prohibits anyone from owning, possessing or exporting items older than one to two centuries.

It is said no visit to Istanbul is complete without seeing Topkapi Palace which began in 1453 as the primary residence for sultans of the Ottoman Empire. Around 1853 the palace, no longer functioning as a primary residence, remained the home for concubines and other sultan servants (the harem) until 1909. Among many highlights is the royal treasury housing items belonging to Muhammad. The grounds are resplendent with tulips, the favorite flower of many sultans. The palace kitchens contain special Chinese pots said to change color if a poisonous substance was placed in it. Topkapi Palace is home to an 86caret diamond believed to be the fifth largest in the world. The grounds are home to the Church of Divine Peace which is currently used as a classical music concert venue.
